One of my early neighborhood bands was called Jazgor Seazanspan, a name we came up with by taking the first two or three letters of the band members’ names. The lead singer was Sharon Zane and during a break one night I had a conversation with her husband Ed. And that conversation morphed into this song.
Lyrics
Ed’s Song
I see you’re ready to start
On your way to my heart
But despite your persistence
My resistance is never in doubt
Don’t know why you would go there
There ain’t no room to grow there
I got nothing to show there
And you know there ain’t no way out
On your way to my heart
You better be on your guard
You are likely to find that I’ll be close behind
Watching you all the time
You better know from the start
I’ll try to tear you apart
On your way to my heart
You shouldn’t let it get to you
Forget everything I said to you
I just can’t find a way of letting you
Into a place I won’t go myself
You’re certainly there for me today
That’s why I just stare and turn away
Don’t want to share my life that way
No one who knows me controls me that well
On your way to my heart
You better be on your guard
You are likely to find that I’ll be close behind
Watching you all the time
You better know from the start
I’ll try to tear you apart
On your way to my heart
If you can disregard the rest of me
Maybe someday you’ll find a way to get the best of me
But once you lose that air of mystery
I surely guarantee
It will be history for you and me
On your way to my heart
You better be on your guard
You are likely to find that I’ll be close behind
Watching you all the time
You better know from the start
I’ll try to tear you apart
On your way to my heart.
