Along the Way

Rosalind and I spent a lot of time talking about “feelings” which I particularly enjoyed since I felt I was somewhat emotionally repressed. Since I was reading a lot of New Age stuff at the time, I channeled the language to talk about my journey. What’s interesting to me is that the song has an emotional component, at least I get that when I listen to it, particularly at the key change in the chorus.

Along the Way

I am satisfied that I have tried

To free myself from fear

Yet everything that I’ve denied

I carry with me here

The walls that compromise existence

The clouds that block the light

Are fortified by my resistance

Are strengthened by my fight

Yet the walls that I ignore

Are walls no more

And I’m free to go now

Down this desolate road now

I’m not sure I’ll know how

To get back here one day

But though I am hurtin’

From feeling uncertain

It’s but a prayer that I pray

A song I play

Along the way

Where, where do I go from here

Where I’ve not already been

And if I ever get somewhere

Must I just begin again

If there’s a differentiation

The choice seems rather clear

I either run from my frustration

Or step into my fear

I hear a knock on my door

And I come in

So I guess I should go now

Down this desolate road now

I’m not sure I’ll know how

To get back here one day

But though I am hurtin’

From feeling uncertain

It’s but a prayer that I pray

A song I play

Along the way

You tell me that my dreams will

come true

God save me from the night

You say there’s nothing I can’t do

And I’m afraid you’re right

That leaves me here with no excuses

And all my sins confessed

You’ll never know how that reduces

My chances of success

For once the battle is won

It’s just begun

Perhaps I should go now

Down this desolate road now

I’m not sure I’ll know how

To get back here one day

But though I am hurtin’

From feeling uncertain

It’s but a prayer that I pray

A song I play

Along the way.
